CEO of healthimo and Principal Investigator of the Right Now! study. Kevin McMahon began his work in diabetes in 2001 after his daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. With a technology background in computers, mobile networks and emerging smart phones, advanced diabetes technology was only a matter of time. By 2002 his team was in the field with the first real-time remote blood sugar monitoring and communication solution anywhere in the world. In 2003 his original design of the Remote Control Artificial Pancreas was submitted to JDRF and the NIH for grant consideration. Since then, McMahon and his team have developed many innovative tools for use by patients and clinicians designed to simplify daily tasks while simultaneously educating patients and their caregivers through cause and effect training.
More recently, Kevin's focus on measuring results from many clinical trials resulted in the first ever agreement by a major health plan to cover the costs of education and advanced mobile Internet technologies for patient's from the comfort of their own home and while walking about via cell phones.
Combining all of these technologies including his latest tool for predicting blood glucose values and indicating carbohydrate requirements to prevent hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia represent an important 4th leg of the drive toward realizing a practical and safe version of the artificial pancreas.
