Kerrville, TX - April 5, 2023. There is no greater heart that the heart beating in the chest of Texas Lions. Today, I am writing to invite your attention to the latest status report regarding TLC charitable Golf Tournament.

As the chart at left indicates, TLC has raised $109,260 or 54% of goal as of this writing, as a result of garnering the support of 115 gifts from 94 faithful donors. Thank you to all for your work thus far, but we still have 46% yet to garner so keep up the good work.

I also want to invite you to keep tabs on our progress by bookmarking and visiting our status notebook often. This excel spreadsheet is located on our website tournament page and is tied to accounting, so it is real-time as contributions to the tournament are booked. Best of all, you may open the file and view it from within your browser with no additional software.

Team Registration

Lastly, please note that at present, TLC has registered 12.25 teams (the decimal indicating a single registration rather than a team) out of a possible 32 teams, leaving 10.75 teams remaining to be registered, including those rerved for our corporate sponsors. What this indicates, is that if you would like to play in the tournament, times awastin'. Don't risk sittin' this year's tournament out, register today!

Justin Barker, A Celebration of Life

Kerrville, TX - August 17, 2020. This past week, I had the honor ofattending the celebration of life for past camper, Justin Barker (1998-2020).

There where so many stories of the joyful times that heexperienced at TLC. He loved the horses, archery and boating. He participatedin all activities without hesitation. Justin was a TLC adventurer, He embodied the“can do” philosophy and made it look easy to the casual observer. In attendance at his celebration, were three past counselors ofTLC. This is a testament to the impact that we have on campers, but also howthey impact our lives.

As Stephen Mabry of TLC put it, “Justin was a rock star atTLC.” As I sat there watching theslideshow of Justin’s life and listening to the speakers that spoke aboutJustin, the thought that kept replaying in my mind was: “This is why we dowhat we do at TLC.”

This is why it is so important that TLC resume residentialservices as soon as it is safe to do so. This is why it is so important that wedo whatever necessary to fund and build the much-needed new buildings to keepour campus vibrant and remaining relevant. This is why it is so important that TLC is there forgenerations to come.

Justin had that “can do” attitude and so do Texas Lions!

Board Meeting - An Open Letter to the Board of Directors

Kerrville, TX - April 20, 2020. Welcome to the ABC Format that saves you time and effort by organizing what I want you to do first versus what I want you to know, in this order: Action, Background, Conclusion. This document will give you additional information concerning TLC's Annual Board Meeting, which will be held in-person and virtually, at your option.(Note: the traditional Board Meeting has been condensed and the standing committees will not meet (unless scheduled for virtual meetings prior the weekend) nor will chairman meet with the Executive Committee. Lastly, the elected directors will not meet during the weekend (but will meet virtually at a later date).

Immediately upon receipt of this communication, log how you will attend TLC's meeting by our convenient, online form, (est. time less than 1 minute).

Background

Dear friends and TLC family: I call you friends and family because that is what you are to me as a result of our history together that spans more than 30 years(and some of you predate me with your care of Texas Lions Camp). I am writing today to provide you additional information and procedures for TLC's Annual Meeting.

The year 2020 has challenged each of us in ways we had no idea it would and that is true for our beloved organization too! I have often thought that one of the greatest gifts God has bestowed is the withholding of the foreknowledge of the adverbs associated with our future and if you think about this year or some of your own past life's events, you will know this to be true. What I also know about God, is that He has perfect timing and has equipped us with excellence to deal with the times and seasons at hand, also one of the greatest gifts He continually provides as we join Him in His work.

In April of this year, the ExComm and I made the gut-wrenching decision not to open residential camping services to children as all are presumed to have co-morbidity and/or compromised immune systems or the possibility that they could return from camp to a family member who does. Admittedly, this describes many of you as well. To the extent that you believe you might bring a contagion with you to Kerrville or are fearful that you might take one home with you as a result of travel to Texas Lions Camp then STAY HOME with my blessing. Another fact that we are going to have to square with, is the likelihood that CV-19 is going to be with us for sometime and we are going to have to learn to operate in spite of it.

The Executive Committee and I have devised a safety plan, that will be strictly enforced for those who feel comfortable with the manner in which things will operate and would like to attend the golf tournament and/or other events in person. Moreover, now that I have advised you of the officially recognized procedure, your attendance in person signifies your agreement to discharge that procedure in harmony with your legal duties of care and obedience to TLC as a board member. For those who choose not to attend in person, please plan to join us virtually. I am currently devising systems that will allow your virtual attendance, check-in, discussion and voting privileges to occur without your being physically present, so long as you are virtually present at the time of voting.

Ensuring the Show Goes On

The importance of our annual meeting cannot be overstated. The entire next year is in fact predicated upon the decisions made with this agenda and without it, our governance structure will not have exercised one of its most important roles: to limit. Some of the more important agenda items we will undertake, include but are not limited to:

Seating of the 20-21 Board of Directors and their election of Corporate Officers
Adoption of the Annual Budget
Adoption of the coming year's Annual Calendar for Summer Camp
Appointment of our Audit firm to audit last year's Financial Statement & Business Acumen
Disclosure of Current Financial Statement
Capital Improvement and how plans have changed

In either case, whether attending in person or virtually, there are a number of things you can expect from me from now until showtime in order to prepare for the meeting. For those who have served in year's prior, much of this equates to what you typically would have received by mail, which will be provided this year digitally and by internet only:

Conclusion

TLC has one of the largest and most engaged Boards of Directors of any organization in the United States and we are indeed fortunate to have the favor of your support. Martyn Lucas & TLC to Host Benefit Concert - August 27, 2020 @ 5:30 PM

Kerrville, TX - July 12, 2020. Every now and then, you meet someone and recognize the fact that you have made a genuine and meaningful connection. Martyn Lucas is one of those connections I recently made and I am excited about an event that he has taken the initiative to produce as a benefit fundraiser and concert for TLC.

To tell you a little bit about Martyn, he was voted "World Piano Man" by Sir Elton John. He has performed as the Phantom of the Opera in Covent Garden, London and has appeared in 195 countries around the World. Martyn sings over 650 songs in 14 voices and 7 languages.

To raise public awareness of TLC's mission and to promote the fundraising success of TLC's effort to raise both of these things during the Polar Bear Plunge Challenge, Martyn will donate his talent, professional grade studio and event planning prowess to provide an additional promotional event and layer to TLC's effort. TLC's, The Show Must Go On event is scheduled for August 27, 2020 at 5:30 PM and will be brought to you LIVE from Martyn's professional studio.

"Through this exciting event, TLC's Polar Bear Court will be provided yet another enticement (other than their taking a plunge into the frigid river) to attract individual and corporate sponsorship of the Polar Bear Challenge to benefit TLC's Building Fund," said Stephen Mabry. The "plunge" will be taken from the Mo-Ranch slide on January 1, 2021, when we will ALL celebrate the passage of 2020 into archival history.

Why are these funds needed?

Storm Damage and Covid-19: the Show Must Go On!

As many of you know, TLC suffered significant damage to at least five structures from three major storms that were visited upon us in March and May of 2020. The result of these storms was the loss and total destruction of Bunkhouse 2, significant structural damage of Bunkhouse 1, significant roofing damage to Jackson, and Real Dorms and some of the equestrian center facilities. At the same time, TLC was not allowed to operate its leasing program and gave up more than $250,000 in lost revenue from partnership programs that had to be sidelined due to Covid-19. All gifts donated to the Show Must Go On! concert or the Polar Bear Challenge will be restricted as brick & mortar and deemed as having been received by TLC's Building Fund for CAMPaign Vision 2020 & Beyond.

Thank you Martyn for joining your talents with TLC's to benefit Texas Children who have special medical conditions. Together, we will have the privilege and opportunity to ensure that the Show Goes on for future generations of children, some of whom have yet to be born!

TLC2U - On its Way!

Kerrville, TX - June 29, 2020.The staff have made their lists and checked it twice, none were naughty and all were nice. TLC2U is on its way with programs set to open July 5, 2020 and by now, children have received their boxes or soon will. For more information about the schedule, click here.

For the first time in TLC's history, we will have the opportunity to meet as an all-camp, TLC family and participate no matter the session assigned. Families, Lions, staff from around the world and volunteers will also be able to join in the fun as we kick off programs for the summer season.

I want to take a moment to thank the staff of TLC for their very hard work on this project. Their dedication, ingenuity, flexibility, creativity and "Can Do" attitude have been an inspiration to watch. TLC2U has been a collaborative effort between the Marketing and Program Departments, and I would be remiss if I did not also give a shoutout to our two VP's Trish Wilson and Karen-Anne King for leading in this effort.

There have been a number of sponsors who have given both time and financial support for this new program and I could not be more grateful for their continued support of TLC's outreach and programs for the kiddos of TLC.
